This best-possible rating is under the new vehicle safety rating implemented by the federal government.  The Overall Vehicle Score is part of the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) that is now being used to on 2011 models.  The Overall Vehicle Score represents the combined results of the overall ratings from the frontal crash tests, the side crash tests and the rollover-resistance into a single score.  New vehicles are ranked between one and five stars with a five-star rating being the safest.

The 2010 Honda CR-V adds to its compact crossover SUV credentials for the 2010 model year with refinements and upgrades to the exterior and interior, new features, better fuel economy, and more power.

2010 Honda CR-V

Exterior styling enhancements include a freshened front fascia with a new grille and bumper design, a re-sculpted hood, and a new rear bumper shape. A 10-spoke alloy wheel design, standard on CR-V EX and EX-L, replaces the previous 7-spoke alloy wheel design. Interior improvements focus on new features and functionality. Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® is now included on models equipped with the available Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™. Auto on/off headlights have been added to the CR-V EX-L and the front seats have wider center armrests on all models.

A wide range of interior updates for 2010 include modifications to the radio functionality and control layout, the introduction of new seat fabric textures and an upgraded interior door handle design with a rubberized grip handle. Revised trim panel sections for the steering wheel, gear selector, upper glove box and center console (navigation-equipped models only) serve to brighten the overall interior color theme. Models equipped with an ivory interior now feature a more passenger-friendly darker brown carpet instead of light brown.

The AM/FM/CD audio system integrates a dual tone gray/black color scheme with blue backlighting, replacing black. The CR-V EX-L (navigation and non-navigation models) receives a USB Audio Interface2 for direct access to music files on compatible devices using the vehicle’s existing controls.

For comfort, the driver’s and front passenger’s center folding armrests are each wider by 1 inch compared to the previous model. The front row storage zones continue to offer the same functionality with areas designed to accommodate items as large as a handbag between the seats to items as small as a mobile phones and music players on the retractable center tray table. A center console replaces the retractable center tray table on the CR-V EX-L with navigation.

A sliding 60/40 split second row seat with a 40/20/40 folding seatback offers cargo versatility by sliding forward to increase cargo space, folding forward to accommodate long objects, or folding and tumbling forward to create a large, flat cargo area.

Colors for 2010 include Opal Sage Metallic (new), Royal Blue Pearl, Taffeta White, Glacier Blue Metallic, Polished Metal Metallic (new), Alabaster Silver Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl, Tango Red Pearl and Urban Titanium Metallic. The leather-clad front seats are heated, wide-bottomed and decently bolstered; they’re comfy if not overly sporty, a description that summarizes the Crosstour in general. The cupholders mounted between them are fine at keeping the crucial morning-commute coffee secure, and can be covered when not in use. You’ll also find the same automatic transmission shifter used in other Accord models, and the center storage bin is plenty roomy and ready to swallow up all manner of random in-car detritus.
Rear-seat passengers have little, if anything, to complain about. It’s spacious back there, with ample legroom even for taller passengers. The Crosstour’s aggressively-sloped roofline belies a surprising amount of backseat headroom, too. Average-sized adults will have no problems whatsoever, and even tall folks should find it surprisingly accommodating. If you have kids, mounting a baby seat or booster (or both) is no biggie. The Crosstour lives right up to the Accord moniker’s family-car reputation.

As for the space that is available, it’s more than enough to handle a big shopping trip to the grocery store or DIY-big-box outlet. Just don’t plan on hauling any really tall or bulky stuff. The rear cargo area also features hidden under-floor storage in the form of a removable, easy-to-clean plastic bin. It looks like it’d be handy for carrying messy stuff like trays of flowers, or just keeping loose trunk junk like your flashlight, jumper cables and first-aid kit out of the way.
The Crosstour is entirely pleasant to drive. The 271 horsepower and 254 pound-feet of torque delivered by the 3.5-liter V6 is more than ample in town and on the highway, announcing itself with a subdued growl from beyond the firewall. Honda’s Variable Cylinder management is standard, allowing the engine to switch seamlessly between three-, four- and six-cylinder operation. If not for the indicator light in the instrument cluster, we wouldn’t even have noticed when VCM was doing its thing.
Compared to the Toyota Venza, the 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour delivers the clearly superior behind-the-wheel experience. We’d happily road-trip one of these, even though we’d have to bring less stuff along for the ride.   Is this the Accord wagon so many of us hoped for? No. Instead, it’s probably the best Accord hatchback ever.

Honda had a fleetwide 23.6 mpg fuel economy average in the 2009 model year. Other import brands rounded out the top 7 for fuel efficiency with Honda clearly the leader in the group.  Detroit’s Big Three finished in the last three spots.
